He then heard Lykos say,” Where is his grave?” Lakmeer didn’t know if he wanted to see his grave, but he nodded when Barabbas looked at him.” Very well.” He said getting up from his seat” Get the horses ready.” He said to his servant and then gestured Lakmeer and Lykos to follow him. They followed him out of the hall towards the stables. Lakmeer was still in shock but he knew his father would want him to be strong, so he stopped his tears and walked with the others. They reached the stables where they were given horses but before they could get on the horses, one of the servants came to Barabbas and said,” Some people just arrived, saying they are from Kareem’s village.” All Lakmeer could now think of was his uncle. Not long after the servant was done talking and Barabbas could think what to do, they arrived at the stables. His uncle was with Haibthan, his eldest son, and some others from the village. His uncle took a sigh of relief when he saw Lakmeer, he looked at his face and saw his father looking at him and smiling. He walked towards his uncle and embraced him, then he broke, he began to cry like a baby. Barabbas told him about his father, he knew his uncle had felt that as a blow but he was being strong for Lakmeer.
His uncle took Lakmeer from the shoulders and looked at him saying,” I know it is sad, but be strong. Nothing is permanent, we always have to loose someone today or tomorrow, the only thing you should never forget is their memory. Keep them close through their memory and keep them hidden here.” He said Pointing at his heart. Lakmeer nodded and looked at the sad smile of his uncle and said to Barabbas,” We need more horses.” Barabbas ordered his servants to ready more horses, while his uncle thanked Lykos for what he had done for Lakmeer, “There is nothing to be grateful about, I saved his life and he saved mine, we are equal.” His uncle nodded and said, “But still I am grateful.” Lykos nodded and looked at Lakmeer, while nodded and smiled back at him. The servants brought horses for his uncle and cousin while the other villagers were sent back to the sitting hall. They got on the horses and walked towards the gate of the palace and then to the gates of the city.
Lakmeer thought of the time when he lost a duel with one of the boys of the village, he was very miserable and after this, but his father put his hands on his shoulders and looked him in the eye smiling and said, “You are not always the looser if you work hard every day.” After that Lakmeer had gotten up every day to train alone and not long after that he had beaten the boy at a duel, he had later become the best swordsman among the youth of his age. His father always had time for him, sometimes he would even come to train him in the morning. He would never forget him and he would always be with Lakmeer whole his life, and Lakmeer would never forget the lessons he had given him.
After a short ride they reached the graveyard of the city, they walked to his father’s grave and go off their horses, he walked to the grave and knelt beside it and said in his heart, “You will always be with me, and I WILL be the jewel you said I was. I will never disappoint you, father.” His uncle came beside him and knelt and said, “He always used to say that I will die fighting, and he did.” His uncle got up with tears gleaming in his eyes while Lakmeer did the same, he could also feel tears in his eyes.
Lykos came beside him and said, “I did not know him, but by knowing you, I know he must have been a good man. For only a good man could yield a son as good as you.” Lakmeer nodded and said, “Thank you, and thank you for saving my life, I did save you from the dungeons but if I were not with you, you would never have been caught in the first place.” Lykos smiled and said, “You and your uncle are impossible to avoid in anyway.” Lakmeer smiled and said,” You did save my life, anyways leave that now. Where will you go now.” He answered directly, like he knew Lakmeer would ask that next,” I have been thinking to join a ship a guard to merchants and never return to this death trap of a country ever again.” Lakmeer felt like he should leave with Lykos too, but he had reasons to stay, his family, his home, needed him. He had to go back home and like Lykos, never return to this “Deathtrap of a country” ever again.
He looked Lykos’ face, the cut that was given by Mefnic had healed but there was a brutal scar there that was never going to disappear. Lykos touched it and said,” How does it look?” Lakmeer smiled and said,” As bad as nobody is ever going to think of fighting you, I wish I had one.” Lykos smiled,” I could give you one.” Lakmeer stepped back and said,” Not really.”
Everyone said their goodbyes to Kareem, his father, and got on their horses to go back to the city and then leave for the village.
Lykos joined a ship whose owner was a friend of Barabbas; it was going to some far away land Lakmeer did not care to ask the name. Barabbas offered some guards for their way to the village which his uncle declined, they left in the first light after one day of their arrival.
This road had taken the most important person in his life, but the journey in these roads gave him many lessons and he had always loved to learn something new. A good teacher is of no use to a student who cares nothing about learning. Life can only teach those who want to learn.
