VERY SCARY HORROR SHORT STORY
NORMAN'S NIGHT
Dr. Shireen watched the interrogation of the bizarre case of Norman Shepherd, who had killed his roommates and then stood and kept saying, “You have done a good job Norman, they deserved it. They were bad people.” Until the police arrived, called by a neighbor. He was terrified and couldn’t take his eyes away from the corner, like looking at something that scares you. She had seen many cases in her ten-year career and believed that nothing could ever surprise her, but this case and Norman’s appearance surprised her in every way. Herself she was of very strong build and of a strong mind and had seen much worse than a boy killing his roommates, and had seen much worse than normal psychiatrists see.
After the interrogator had to call his name loudly, only then Norman looked at him, “So Norman why did you kill your roommates?” Norman replied with a one-second look at the corner stuttering at first making the interrogator say, “Come again? Didn’t catch that what did you say?” Norman stuttered yet again but it was clear what he said, “It…it wasn’t me... No… not… me.” The interrogator looked at him and said, “It wasn’t? You were found sitting in the middle of the two victims and talking to yourself. The officer who found you in this condition told us that you were consoling yourself and saying that they were bad people and you did well.” Norman just stared at the corner and repeated the same thing over and over again, “It wasn’t me, It wasn’t me. I am innocent. “ The interrogator shouted at Norman whose expressions changed in a split second, he looked furious like he would have attacked if he wasn’t cuffed, and he shouted, “I DIDN’T DO IT, I DIDN’T KILL THEM. HE MADE ME DO IT, HE IS THE ONE WHO KILLED THEM.” He somehow pointed with his cuffed hands at the corner he kept looking. He calmed down and started to cry and repeated, “I am innocent.”
Dr. Shireen spoke stepped forward, went to the microphone which was connected to the interrogator’s earbud, and said, “Ask him what happened that night. And who made you do it.” The interrogator nodded and said, “Ok Norman, but as you were the only witness of that night. Could you at least tell us what happened and who is this “he” you are talking about.”
Norman calmed down and said, “Couple of months ago, I was making dinner and I heard someone crying in our flat. I tried to find the person but could even though I looked every room, at last I realized it was coming from the bathroom in the corner of one of the rooms, that is broken and not used. I took the broom as weapon in case something dangerous was hiding there and slowly walked towards the door of the bathroom. When I opened the door a foul smell came from the bathroom and in the corner was a creature of some kind and he was crying.” The interrogator cleared his throat again and said, “How is this related to the case? ” Norman continued like he was not interrupted and Dr. Shireen stopped the interrogator from doing it again, she wanted to hear this. “I stood a little back from him” continued Norman “ He seemed harmless and weak, he was so skinny that I could see the shapes of his bones. He looked like a dwarf but his features were a bit scary, he was weak but very scary. When he saw me he looked terrified and said please don’t kill me.
I slowly walked towards it and said that I won’t kill you and don’t be scared of me and asked the reason it was crying for. It cried and said in all his years he had never been asked the reason for his crying. I walked forward and said I’m different, and asked if it was hungry. It nodded and came out of the bathroom and walked towards the hall with it’s dirty feet, which were larger than they were supposed to be for its size, leaving large footprints on the carpet. It entered the kitchen before me and munched on the scraps of lunch and did not take the food I gave it. He started to come daily and eat the remains of food and became more and more of a headache. Started to spoil food what it did not eat and its footprints were everywhere, and I had to clean them daily. He started to tell me bad things about my roommates, whenever I was alone and always told me how they spoke bad about me behind my back. I started fighting with them very often, even though I knew they were good people. I felt like I was possessed, I couldn’t stop myself fighting with them when I was angry.
I had thought of leaving the room many times but goor stopped me, that’s what he said his name was, he was like a friend. He was troublesome, sometimes I had to clean the room many times because he just kept walking on the carpet, but he was a friend. That night I slept and was woken up by him and he told me to kill them both. I knew it was wrong I could see myself doing it all but no matter how much I tried to stop myself from doing it, I just couldn’t.” Everyone listened to his whole story very attentively and when it was over the captain said, “Seems like he needs to go to a mental asylum.”
The next day he was taken there, Norman just kept saying the same thing, “Please, he says he will kill me. Please, I didn’t do it.” What really made this case different was, Norman was killed by another patient after some days and this patient’s laughter was what Dr. Shireen would never forget.
