SOMEONE IN THE ATTIC

The second day of his arrival Mr. Spooky had walked around the house with the device in his hands, he had entered every room and labeled every room with a color code. The rooms where the beeping of the device had been faster, he had fixed a red color paper, while the rooms where it had been lower, he had fixed one that was yellowish. Almost every room coded with the red labels, when he was done, except for two rooms. The hall was one of those places where it had made a beeping sound in yellow standards, the landing on the upper floor and near the attic door, as said by Mr. Spooky were “way beyond red, and dangerous.” So everyone was told to refrain from going upstairs and they would not be allowed to go to the attic, no matter how important it was.

Everyone stayed in the hall, slept there, ate their food there and Mr. Spooky and his team did their planning there. When two days had passed since the arrival of Mr. Spooky, and nothing out of the ordinary had happened, in face nothing had happened in the whole week of his stay. Except for one of the team mates had been locked inside a bathroom, whose door had to be taken off the hinges, and the attic door had knocked for two whole nights probably by one of the ghosts. The reason for the knocking Arthur presumed had been because of what Mr. Spooky had said, when they had entered in the attic. He had said that, “While I’m here they would not even dare knocking on the attic’s door.” And the same night, they had knocked on the door whole night and the second night as well.

Arthur was very scared of going into the attic again, Abs was the first one to enter in the attic, it had been so cold that they could see each other’s breath. He had entered the last, what really had been intriguing him was that the nail that had pierced his foot in his dreams was there, and it had blood around it, the whole place was filled with blood and his bloody footprint, he had not spoken it to anyone.

The ghost detector had started to beep so fast that Mr. Spooky had turned it off for it had been painful to the ear. His team had walked around the attic and looking at things, his attic was empty, it had always been empty and that day it was empty as well. The only thing that it contained was a very old piano in the corner. Mr. Spooky had gone to it and had looked at it all around. The piano had been there before the last owner and Arthur did not know who else to ask, so he had not asked anyone and let it be there, as it was bothering no one. They had stayed in the attic for about an hour, and then had come down, nothing dramatic had happened in there, or anywhere except for the couple of events.

Mr. Spooky had stayed for a whole week, and only for the first two days the devices had made voices, but after that, the devices had stopped making noises, the knocking on the attic’s door had stopped after two days as well, his dreams had stopped and the attic, was not cold anymore. By the end of the week Mr. Spooky had left, he had taken some shots in the attic in the first two days and had shown his viewers the temperature in the attic and the beeping of his devices, when it had stopped he had lost his interest in the house and had said, “Man, it’s so quiet and viewers hate the quiet, except it is because we have heard some footsteps or scary knocking on the door at three in the night. I guess the ghosts in your house have left for some reason.” It was a good thing for Arthur because he was not interested to see his son scream again like he did.

After Mr. Spooky had left, he had gone to his wife and told her about the house, she had been over-joyed about it and had been ready in the instance for coming back. They had reached the house and just when Henry had entered his room, he collapsed, but Arthur caught him and put him on his bed. He started to shake, Arthur did not know what to do, he had been fine and hour ago, he had not had a fever again, as his wife had said at her sister’s house. Arthur put a blanket on his son and tried to make steady, his wife was worsening the matters by crying and saying, “Do something Arthur.” She was standing in the far corner thunderstruck and crying, he shouted at her, “Call James, fast.” But before she could take her phone out and call anyone he stopped shaking and opened his eyes. His sat up and said in a normal tone, in his own voice, “What happened?” His mother came at him and hugged him crying, while Arthur sank into the only chair in the room, breathing like a bull.

He took his head in his hands, he did not know what to do, he knew it was not a psychological problem with Henry because he had seen what Henry had seen and so had his wife. But what was happening had stopped, why again, Henry had not had a fever again and had been normal, why then at his entry to the house caused it. But just then something happened that made the matters even worse, all of a sudden many things happened at once, his wife shouted pointing the corner behind the door, a knocking started right above them he heard a merciless laughter that gave him goosebumps. He got up and looked at the corner, for a second he saw a woman, but the other second she was gone, it was the same woman he had seen in his dreams. He got up, the laughter and knocking still continued, he helped Henry and his wife stand and made them walk outside to the car.

Henry entered the car and then his wife and at last him, before entering he looked at the window of Henry’s room, he saw the same woman laughing and could hear her muffled laughter, even outside. He started the car and searched for Mr. Spooky’s number, both at the same time, he could not think of anyone else. If he could not help him, he was sure that there must be someone he would know who could get them out of all this.
