They were all very friendly, and they were going to rest in the village, where Eddie was going to give some of the remaining part of his supplies from where he would go to another village for the last remaining part, they asked Lakmeer and Lykos to stay there with them for the night, and leave together in the first light. Lakmeer happily said “yes”, because staying in the forest meant one of them was going to stay awake half the night and the other one the other half, but in the village Lakmeer could sleep peacefully.
Not after a long distance, Eddie asked to leave the road and they all went in the woods, it was getting darker every minute and Lakmeer saw Lykos’ hand on the hilt of his sword the whole time. By the time they reached the village it was totally dark and they had to light a torch. When they reached near enough to the village, they heard a challenging voice from a guard whom they couldn’t see,” who goes there?” Eddie stepped off his horse and went forward, bringing the torch nearer to his face so that the guard sees him,” It’s me Eddie, hello Rgwayer.” The man recognized Eddie and lit a torch, now his face was visible as well, a tall muscular man, with a large nose. He called to open the gates, Lakmeer with his party went inside after the gates were opened.
This wasn’t such a large village, they had erupted a compound wall with woods, probably from the woods of the area, they were living in, it was a tall thing. There were guard posts in places and places for archers to shoot down at the enemy in case of an attack. The houses were all made of wood, but they didn’t seem to be half as strong as the compound wall. There were children and women sleeping outside.
When they were all inside, the gates were closed and barred. Eddie and the guard called Rgwayer embraced each other, like long lost brothers, while he shook hands with others. Eddie introduced his companions to the guard and then introduced the guard to his companions. The guard who seemed like jolly man said,” Friends of Eddie’s are always welcome here at any time.” They were all taken to a hall, where they were fed.” It’s a fresh hunt, this morning, the biggest deer I have seen.” Boasted Rgwayer. Whatever it was Lakmeer did not care, it was the best meal Lakmeer had in a while and it was really good. He ate like a ravaging beast for he knew it would take a while for him to find something this good. They ate and drank and talked, but mostly ate until they were filled to the brim. After they were all full, they were taken to another hall, as there were not many rooms, so they had to sleep there. Lakmeer didn’t have any problem with that, it was much better than sleeping in the forest. Where if man doesn’t find you, a snake or some other animal will, and kill you.
Lakmeer was woken up by Eddie, who woke him up so gently that he was reminded of his father. He got up went outside to wash, the sun wasn’t up yet and while there was the dim light from the east that said the sun was on its way. He had not seen the wall well enough in the night, but now due to the faint light of the sun, he could see it clearly. It was bigger than it looked in the night. A very tall, thick and strong thing.” Ok now, you have to get ready fast. As you can see it is getting brighter every moment and we have to reach the city before the evening.” Said Eddie.
He washed himself and went to the dining hall where the protectors of the village were having breakfast and so were his friends. He went to their table where they were all busy munching, and it seemed like none of them noticed him. He sat at the table and called a maid for food, he didn’t know what they had so he just said “bring anything.” Food was brought for him and he started to eat, it was a deer like the night so he ate like he had eaten last night.
After they were all finished Eddie came to them and said,” Come on now, we have to go, so gather your things and meet me at the stables. They left the dining hall and headed for the hall they were sleeping in. Henry began to sing a song about some fallen hero. His song felt like it was talking about his father, the hero leaves his home to never come back again, all that remained of him was his legacy. All songs were either the stories of past or a prophecy, and this was a story of the past. Lykos still seemed to be suspicious about these new companions or maybe he always looked the same, like he was going to kill someone.
When they got to the hall, everyone became busy getting their things ready. Lakmeer didn’t have much so he was finished first. He went to Lykos who was still busy, he looked at Lakmeer and said with his annoyed voice,” What do you want?” Lakmeer looked at his sword, an old thing, the steel was folded on itself due to the long years of battles, leather on the hilt didn’t seem to have anything for gripping. Then he looked at Lykos and said,” why don’t you trust them, they could have killed us last night if they wanted to, they can even kill us now. How many of them can we kill?” He looked at Lakmeer, his nose was a total wreck due to the cut Mefnic gave him, and it had made a wreck of his whole face. He said looking Lakmeer in the eyes,” You think I trust you?”
Saying that he left, Lakmeer did not know what to say to that, so he just followed him to the stables, Henry and Othor took some time but they came before Eddie had to go and drag them to the stables. Rgwayer was there as well with a dozen of his guards, they were here to escort Lakmeer and others to the road. They all got on their horses after saying their good byes to their host, Eddie embraced Rgwayer like a brother promising to be back soon with more supplies.
After all the courtesies were done, the gates were opened and they all left with their escorts. The commander of their escort was a young fellow, not very older than Lakmeer, he was broad shouldered and a very strong looking youth. Eddie had told him that it was Rgwayer’s son and his name was Ebert. Eddie was busy talking to him about hunting, as Ebert had the command of the hunters. It seemed all Eddie could think about was the condition of other people, and all he could think of was helping them in their misery. When they reached the road, Ebert said his good byes and so did his soldiers, and they left. While Lakmeer and his friends set on to their journey towards the city.
“The city isn’t that far; we should be there before the evening, there we can find a descent inn and a place to sleep. Then in the morning we will leave together with this last supply of food to another small village.” Eddie announced as they began to get their pace faster. The canter of the hooves of their horses thundered throughout the forest as they headed towards the city.
